Croydon resident Monica Ryan felt passionately that improved access to physiotherapy was key in helping a person with the management of their MS.
In 1986, the group started on a small scale providing a single exercise class specifically tailored for people with MS. Right from the start, the class was run by a physiotherapist with a specialism in neurology.
In April 1992 the group opened a regular weekly exercise and yoga class in Ward C5 of Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children in Carshalton. Attendance increased and by October of the same year a second venue (6 Morland Road Croydon) was added for people to attend on Wednesday evenings.
Permanent premises continued to be sought and grants from both the Bridge House and Bradbury Charitable Trusts enabled the group to purchase the freehold of its fully accessible property in Coulsdon and incorporated as a registered charity in February 1995.
